Printed material and photographs, 1862-2005 (bulk 1895-1929). The bulk of the material is photocopies of printed material, primarily newspaper and journal articles, collected by Wertheim while researching the writing of his book, Vaudeville Wars. The collection contains information on many aspects of Vaudeville including performers, theater and circuit owners and managers; theater and circuit management and organization; professional associations and unions; theater buildings; legal activities; and the history of vaudeville as an industry. Photographs contain images of people, organizations and places associated with vaudeville.

Arthur Frank Wertheim was born December 22, 1935, in New York, N.Y. Son of Albert (a stockbroker) and Ruth (Weisberg) Wertheim. He married Carol J. Youngberg, February 4, 1972; they have one son, Jason Albert. Arthur Frank Werthheim received his B.A. in 1957 from Yale University. He then went to New York University where he got his M.A. in 1967 and his Ph.D. in 1970. From 1971-78 he was an assistant professor of American Studies at the University of Southern California, ...
